Swine Flu Update and Website Resource for Parents and Staff
From: N-MUSD School Community,
While we have no confirmed cases of swine flu in our immediate area, we are aware of the public health emergency that has been declared.   As always, our concern is the safety of our students and staff.
The District is working closely with the Orange County Health Care Agency and we are in constant communication and receiving alerts and information.
The Health Care Agency recommends that students and staff remain home and seek medical attention if they become ill with influenza-like symptoms: fever, body aches, headache, cough, congestion, sore throat, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea.
Please be assured that our District Nurses and Health Assistants are monitoring the situation closely.  They are aware of and are following the most recent recommendations.  The nurses at each school site are being vigilant about calling parents and checking on students who have been reported ill as well as monitoring students at school.
As always, we ask you to be vigilant and keep your children home from school if he or she is exhibiting any signs of illness.  We are again stressing frequent handwashing, cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze and then discard the tissue.
We also have standard cleaning protocols in place for our facilities and continue to emphasize with our staff.
We will continue to keep you informed as new information is received.  All information will be listed on our website at www.nmusd.us
Should you have any questions, please contact Marcia BMarthaler, Coordinator of Health Services at 949-515-6730 or mbmarthaler@nmusd.us
For additional resources, the Orange County Department of Education has created a Swine Flu website http://www.ocde.us/flu_update.asp to provide schools and parents with the most current information about the swine flu outbreak. Swine flu is a respiratory illness of pigs caused by infection with swine influenza A virus (SIV) that can occasionally affect humans. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has determined that the swine flu virus is contagious and is spreading from human to human. On this website you will find links to informational sites about swine flu as well as toolkits and other resources that schools and parents may use to increase awareness about swine flu prevention and treatment.
